Email NOTE from
Michigan Library in Lansing: Library of
Michigan Reference Desk <librarian@michigan.gov> Date: 01/07/2004 4:40 PM
Thank you for your
email requesting assistance information about your family history from the
Library of Michigan.
Although your family
has said that Ida Richter was married at the age of 13, Michigan Law has always
stated that the earliest age a person may be married is 16 and parental permission is required. If you wish more information on this, you
may contact the Law Library. The email
address is lmlawlib@michigan.gov. They
also may be able to respond to your question about sealed records in the county
probate records.
AuGres was originally
part of Bay County but in 1883 Arenac County was split from Bay County. I would suggest that you contact Arenac
County for marriage records since you did not find the marriage in Bay
County. Is it possible that the
marriage occurred later? Ida appears on
the 1900 Federal Decennial Census living with her second husband, William
Patterson, and her son, Earl Wetmore.
The son was 13 and the census indicates that he was born in 1887. She and Patterson had been married for 6
years at that time. The image of that
census page is attached and their names appear on lines 20-22.
